Otto - the Boy at the Window

As Tom and Peter chronicled Peter's true life story they discovered that the effects of his childhood experiences echoed throughout the personal relationships of his adult life, including his children. It was not until the death of Peter's mother and the absence of remorse that he began to truly understand why he was never really able to express love to those around him.
During their many conversations, Tom observed how Peter would often stand up and walk to the window when reflecting upon his past. The image of a window initially as a bridge between Peter, the man and Otto, The boy, was instrumental in connecting the past and the present.
As this process occurred, it became clear that another story was unfolding and that was the story of Peter's mother, Karla. She was a woman Peter barely knew and whose domination of her family he deplored until he began to view her in a mystical way after her death.
When he imagined her looking back at him through the window, he began to understand lessons about forgiveness and compassion.
